Why We Don't Sing
Monday, January 11, 2010
The UTNE Reader published this readable article about how singing is so natural in children but then becomes forgotten later on.
I don't agree with the author completely -- from where I'm sitting, we're a planet full of singers. But the piece does approach the topic from an interesting perspective.

As a long-time music teacher and vocal coach I have found that there seem to be two main reasons people don't sing: the first, a total disinterest and, to me, an unfathomable lack of connection with music, and second: simple fear and lack of the confidence that gives one "permission" to sing whether one is skilled or not.
