American Theatre Magazine Special Issue Devoted To The Voice
Monday, November 30, 2009
The January issue of American Theatre Magazine will focus on the human voice and features an article by VoiceBox host and producer Chloe Veltman (a frequent contributor to the publication.)
The voice is the actor’s instrument. It contains the potential for charged dialogues, mellifluous monologues, heart-tugging cries and soaring 11th-hour numbers. But how does one become a virtuoso?
Bridging the teaching of technique and the practical concerns of the acting profession, this special section features the leading figures of voice training Cicely Berry, Catherine Fitzmaurice, Arthur Lessac, Kristin Linklater and Patsy Rodenburg discussing their unique approaches to training the voices of actors and singers, from coaching actors to speak a heightened text clearly and learning how to sustain vocal energy to finding one’s original voice. PLUS: A practical round-up of experts' tips on caring for one's voice, by Chloe Veltman, host of Bay Area public radio program "VoiceBox”; and actors and voice teachers review some of the latest books about the voice in performance.
The January issue of American Theatre will be available on newsstands on January 1.
