VoiceBox Shows for the rest of May

Thursday, May 13, 2010

An all-new series of VoiceBox starts on June 4. Between now and then, be sure to catch these three great shows from previous series:

May 14 / So you wanna be an opera star?

On this week's edition of VoiceBox, host Chloe Veltman finds out what it takes to learn to sing on the stages of the world's great opera houses. San Francisco Opera training guru and acclaimed soprano Sheri Greenawald joins Chloe in the studio for a discussion about operatic vocal technique, auditions, and the importance of learning to speak Italian.

May 21 / Hooray for community choruses!

This week, join VoiceBox host Chloe Veltman as she takes a journey through the surprisingly eclectic world of community choruses, of which there are more than 500 in the Bay Area alone! Local community choir director Paul Flight will be on hand to discuss what motivates people from all walks of life to spend their time getting together to sing for fun, the blurred line between the so-called professional and amateur singing worlds, and some of the opportunities and challenges facing local community ensembles.

May 28 / Men with high voices

Join Chloe Veltman as she finds out what it takes for a guy to sing really, really high when VoiceBox explores the vocal prowess of male sopranos and altos from the castrati of the Baroque period to Justin Timberlake. In-studio guest, Justin Montigne, a superlative local countertenor who sings with the Clerestory a cappella vocal ensemble (and is a former member of Chanticleer) will be on hand for a discussion about the highs and lows (but mostly highs) of living in your head voice as a male singer.
